Families don’t struggle because of one person. They struggle because of the patterns between people.
Every family develops its own unwritten rules: who takes care of whom, how disagreements are handled, which topics are off-limits, and what role each person plays. These patterns often form with the best intentions, but over time they can leave family members feeling unheard, stuck in old roles, or caught in the same conflicts again and again.
At MindWell Consulting, the family itself is the client. Drawing on more than 20 years of experience as a licensed psychotherapist, Julie Altman Wolff, MS, LCPC, works with families as a whole to understand the dynamics at play and change them together, rather than pointing to any one person as the problem.
What this work can address
- Ongoing conflict or communication breakdowns between family members
- Tension between parents and adult children, or between siblings
- Blended families and the adjustments that come with new roles and relationships
- Family transitions such as caregiving, loss, relocation, or changes in the household
- Family businesses where personal and professional relationships overlap
- Roles, boundaries, and expectations that have become rigid or unclear
How it works
Sessions begin with a close look at how your family functions: its structure, its relationships, and the patterns that keep everyone stuck. From there, Julie works with family members together to build shared understanding, strengthen communication, and develop practices that help the family stay connected and emotionally steady, even during difficult moments. Where helpful, she draws on her group curriculums, designed to bring members together as a cohesive, emotionally regulated community.
Why it’s different
Julie combines the depth of a licensed psychotherapist with the practical focus of a coach. Her training in trauma, attachment, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy helps families navigate painful conversations with safety and care, and move toward change that lasts.
